Getting Ready to Redo My Bathroom

We bought our house in 1999 and I’ve been living with the same blue and white striped bathroom walls ever since. If you’ve never seen it, the effect can really make you dizzy. Additionally, the ceiling is falling down because of the humidity from hot showers, I think it’s time for a major overhaul.

So what to do? Of course I’d love the bathroom of my dreams from roman times complete with personal attendants who feed me chocolate and rub my feet. Second to that I’d like a new tub, preferably a spa of some kind, move the toilet so it’s not smack dab in the middle of the room and widen the bathroom vanity so I have more than 6 inches of sink and counter space to store my endless stash of beauty supplies.

I went to my local home improvement store last weekend to check out the bathroom vanities area. Wow. The bigger ones averaged around $800, and that was still for just one sink. I can live with one sink, I don’t think I need to be brushing my teeth next to anyone, but I definitely need the wider style. If you wanted really nice wood the prices went up into the $1500 range. Most of them were of the appearance of wood, some were white, some black. Some came with sink tops included, others were just the base. Apparently I’m going to have to ponder this.

Ideally I would replace my existing tub and bathroom shower enclosures combination with a built up corner tub surrounded by ceramic tile and a separate shower stall. But I’m not sure I have enough room for that. So I may have to settle for an upgraded tub and shower unit. Fine.

Most important is changing the color scheme. The blue and white stripes must go. I’m guessing a soft neutral color that could be accented with colorful towels would be best. I’m imagining soft lighting, bubble bath, and a good book. Where’s the sledge hammer? It’s time to get started!
